Mary Jo Frick, VP of Finance for Catholic Health Services (CHS), had heard of Kwalu’s Designed to Last rehabilitation furniture, and took some time out of her busy day to throw a Kwalu chair down the stairwell to test its durability. She was very impressed by the minimal damage to the stylish, elegant chair. And then even more impressed when she saw damage being removed by steel wool in seconds. Through Kwalu, Mary Jo had found a sophisticated solution to CHS needs for stylish, functional rehab hospital furniture
Mary Jo shared her demonstration with Drew Schweitzer, Director of Materials Management for CHS, and, over seven years and several new builds later, Kwalu remains the standard for rehab seating, tables and casegoods in the high-end Catholic Health Services communities.
Kwalu collaborated with Catholic Health Services to create custom built-in corner units for their patient rooms that fulfilled the design standards set for St. Catherine’s West Rehabilitation Hospital. These beautiful custom units matched other Kwalu casegood pieces, chairs and custom window benches in these rooms and in Hospice designated rooms. Kwalu also produced seating and tables for cafeteria and dining spaces, lounge and lobbies throughout the facility, quiet rooms, and physician and staff lounges.

St. Catherine’s West Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Catholic Health Services, brings together a rehabilitation hospital, skilled nursing beds, and a hospice unit. With 67,289 SF of space, the facility houses 60 inpatient beds (including private rooms, skilled nursing beds, and orthopedic rehabilitation beds), a medical rehab gym, an indoor aquatic center, and an inpatient Catholic Hospice care center. Physician specialties include internal medicine, neurology, cardiology, pulmonology, infectious disease and orthopedics.
