What to Expect from Higher Education Living

Higher education and higher expectations

College. It is one challenge after another. The expectations of those who attend college have changed over the years. The level of what those who leave the comfort of their homes and families to live on campus expect has risen over the years. College students and their parents expect their experience to be comfortable and have many amenities. While getting a higher education is still tough, the experience, they feel, should be effortless.

Beautiful spaces enhance learning

The most important aspect of creating spaces that work best in education is to remember the space must be comfortable. In the classroom that can be expressed a number of ways. Seating that has the right back and seat height as well as seat depth are key to comfortable learning. Organization is as important as cleanliness to allow students to learn in a reduced stress environment. Study areas are changing from solo to more collaborative spaces. These spaces focus on lounge-type furniture pieces that cater to independent and group study.

Common spaces that foster a sense of community

Living spaces on college campuses have evolved from the dorm room and hall shared bathroom to ‘welcoming semi-private’ living/learning centers. Suite style residences include common areas to allow students to connect with more than their roommates or suite mates. With the advent of mobile and distance learning, there is a much greater need for these spaces to have the most up-to-date technology. Today’s college student does not need to stress about his or her environment as they now have easier ways to connect with other students, on and off campus.
