Protea Plus — Our Greenhealth Approved Option
Protea™ Plus delivers all the performance qualities of Protea — durability, bleach-cleanability, resistance to moisture, and a wood-look warmth — with one important difference: it eliminates PVC.
By doing so, Protea Plus seating frames qualify under Healthy Interiors criteria and are Greenhealth Approved when specified without non-compliant options and paired with compliant upholstery. Available in five finishes, Protea Plus gives designers and healthcare systems a PVC-free option that meets sustainability and procurement goals while maintaining the trusted performance of Kwalu furniture.

Certifications That Support Your Goals
LEVEL® Certification
Kwalu is LEVEL® certified, meeting the rigorous standards of BIFMA’s sustainability certification program for furniture. LEVEL is a comprehensive, transparent third-party certification that evaluates the product, the manufacturing facility, and the company responsible for the product brand against the multi-attribute criteria of the ANSI/BIFMA e3-2019 Furniture Sustainability Standard. The LEVEL mark affirms that products certified under the program can be specified with confidence.
Kwalu’s product grouping methodology for LEVEL certification follows these approaches:
- A combination of the base product and options representing the highest volume of sales—or the anticipated highest volume for a new product—within the product category or subcategories defined in Annex A. It is not necessary to evaluate the full range of options available on the representative sample. However, all products within the family group are expected to meet the intent of the credits.
- Worst-case sample selection as defined in Section 4.

When it’s time to refresh your space, we offer end-of-life strategies to extend the usefulness of your furniture:
- Refurbishing: Seat cushions are designed to be field-replaceable and can be ordered directly from Kwalu. Chair-back upholstery can be replaced onsite through our Kwalu upholstery replacement service.
- Donating: Many organizations can benefit from your existing products. If you’d like help identifying potential recipients, let us know—we’re happy to make recommendations.
