Refined natural beauty best describes the Aegis Living communities situated in the Pacific Northwest, California and Nevada. One of the jewels is Aegis at Marymoor in Redmond, Washington. Aegis believes that each resident deserves a high quality of life and they work hard to provide the best. This luxurious assisted living community offers spacious resident rooms with views of the lush Marymoor Park just next door. A variety of warm, home-like features have been incorporated to promote residents’ comfort and opportunities for choice.
President Emeritus of Aegis, Jerry Meyer, first learned about Kwalu at a design conference in 2008 and was instantly a fan. Kwalu’s dining chairs are in a number of Aegis properties, replacing wood dining chairs that just weren’t holding up. The partnership between the two companies has lasted for more than a decade.
Style is very important when it comes to creating spaces where residents thrive and furniture selection is the foundation. What most impressed Aegis about Kwalu is its lasting durability. As resident acuity levels rise, seniors require wheel chairs, canes and scooters to get around and furniture for senior citizens that can take a beating, literally. For Aegis Interior Design Director Cindy Mennella and Procurement and Design Manager, Kirsten Parsons, style is a big component when it comes to creating stunningly beautiful environments and for them, Kwalu more than delivers. “Kwalu’s assisted living chairs don’t get banged up. We have Kwalu chairs that have been used by our residents for years and still maintain their good looks.” Cindy continues, “What I like most about the Kwalu chairs is their durability and good looks. The pitch of the back makes it nice to lean against and it doesn’t matter who sits in it – men or women, everyone sits comfortably. Everyone fits! Not only is the durability there, the design is very good!”
Kwalu assisted living furniture is a big hit at the Aegis properties not only with residents but maintenance people and other staff members. Cindy observes, “It is so durable. It won’t deteriorate versus wood, in which joints come apart and finishes wear down under constant cleaning”.
Kwalu customer service is outstanding. Kirsten feels the experience with Kwalu is always the best and for that reason alone, she highly recommends Kwalu. “Kwalu makes a beautiful product. The finish is good and the Kwalu people are really nice to work with. It’s a great partnership! There isn’t anything that I don’t like about Kwalu. Great product and great customer service!”
The collaboration of high quality Kwalu furniture in the posh communities of Aegis Living continues. Zusman says, “Trends in assisted living suggest that seniors expect vibrant and comfortable common areas where family and friends will be invited to socialize. Aegis was sold on the durability of our product immediately. At Kwalu, we strive to make our furniture beautifully dependable, so when elegant communities like those in the Aegis family place Kwalu in their assisted living dining rooms we are very proud.” Kwalu’s Enna dining chair takes center stage at Aegis on Madison in Seattle, Washington. And the Aegis/Kwalu connection continues as Cindy proclaims, “we like to always use Kwalu chairs – to go for the quality. “ According to Kirsten, on the visits to the existing Aegis communities that have not yet upgraded to Kwalu, “…the chairs that are in place are always an issue because they are wood and look terrible over time. The finish wears in a relatively short time and they look nicked, tired and chipped. The communities that have the Kwalu chairs never have issues.”
